now good The Bolixo social media system We created the !Bolixo system. This is a distributed social media. It is built using free software and is also free software. It comes with a promise: your private date will remain private. We won't share it in any form with no one. !Distributed It means the Bolixo system is made of several independent servers (not a cluster). Users on one server may interact with users on the other servers. Organization may create their own servers. !Free software Free software has many advantages. But in this case, this is a way to keep everyone honest. If you feel that we do not respect our promise (that we do something fishy with your data), you are free to move to another server or create your own. Moving your data from one social media to another is tricky unless they implement the same solution. Free software allows this. !Why ? Social media are important. They allow people to interact easily. They allow people to meet other people and exchange ideas. But control over social media content has introduced major societal problems. More and more, social media have been used to influence people. Providing all your public and private messages, documents, videos to one large corporation is bad. They will figure out ways to monetize it and miss use it. >Someone is spying on you. You do not care. Because you have nothing to hide. So be it ? ! At the end of the day, your opinion will matter. Your vote will matter. They will use all this knowledge (about you) to influence you. Instead of one giant cluster hosting thousands (or millions) of accounts, managed by a single entity, it is made of independent servers connected loosely. Users on one server may interact with users on another one. Further, because it is free software the whole Bolixo ecosystems will be made of servers managed by different organizations. Organizations and governments will end up having their own bolixo servers, fully controlling the content it produces. This is what Bolixo is all about. Here are some of its features: *By default, everything is private. *Users may publish in a master directory ? https://bolixo.org information about themselves, so others may find them. They can publish just their name or much more (their phone number if they wish). And they can remove themselves from the directory at the flip of a switch. *Users have a public page. It is disabled by default. Once enabled it may be used as a micro-blogging page and/or full personal page (with the presentation you want). *Users may register interest in other user public micro-blog. All selected micro-blogs are merged in a single page. *Users may connect with other users, by making a contact request. Once accepted, they can send private messages to each other. They can insert each other in work groups. Each member has access to the groups shared inbox and project folder. *Each user has a public project. It is used to produce the public micro-blog and personal public page. Users may make other users members of their public project. So a team may actually feed the micro-blog and public page.
