Fetchmailconf server Fetchmail can retrieve mail from one or more mail servers. Each server can have one or more user mail boxes. 11.. MMaaiill sseerrvveerr nnaammee Mail servers are identified by their names. Their names are usually in the form of: mail.anydomain.com. A server can be deactivated temporarily. This can be useful if a server is down or otherwise unreachable. 22.. PPrroottooccooll The protocol to be used must be specified. The most common ones are POP3 and IMAP. Fetchmail is able to automatically determine which protocol to use by specifying AUTO. Use AUTO if you don't know which protocol to use. 33.. SSeeccuurriittyy For added security, fetchmail is able to monitor an interface or an interface with an IP address and mask. 44.. MMuullttiiddrroopp Multidrop is used when one mailbox on the server is used to accumulate mail for more than one person. Fetchmail gets the mail to the mailbox and tries to determine who the recipients are. Please note that multidrop does not work well in many situations -- especially if it's used with mailing lists. If multidrop must be used, then the protocol ETRN should also be used. ETRN is a protocol, in the same computer, which asks the mail server to make a connection to sendmail in order to transfer mail directly. 55.. PPrriivviilleeggee Privilege for fetchmail servers is needed. 66.. FFuurrtthheerr iinnffoorrmmaattiioonn See the man pages for fetchmail for further information.
