TCP services are generally plain text. Their protocol are
very easy to use. THe SMTP or POP-3 protocols are quite
usable with a telnet. Administrators often use a telnet to
test TCP servcice, since the error shown are often much
more usable than the GUI clients.

The tcptool module provides the telnet functionality from
Linuxconf, plus some goodies.
