NT2Linux migration kit Introduction This module is the Linux component of the NT 2 Linux migration kit. It installs NT settings, extracted with nt2linux.exe in various Linux configuration file. 11.. PPrriinncciipplleess Configuration migration involves the following steps: +o Extracting the information on the NT server. +o Adapting the information as needed, so it fit the various policies in Linux (No spaces in group name for example). +o Installing these settings in the various configuration files. 22.. SSttiillll iinnccoommpplleettee The nt2linux module is rather crude. It displays the various information categories and let you browse them. For each category, you are allowed to "export" the information. Once you have exported the information, the appropriate configuration file is updated and a backup copy is produced. A message confirm the job done. After exporting the various categories, you are ready to test the new configurations. You may want to restart the various services, at least samba to get proper operation. /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb restart will do it. 33.. AAbboouutt ggrroouuppss iinn ggrroouuppss NT allows members of a group to be other groups. By default Linux does not. The nt2linux module will populate /etc/group and /etc/smb.conf assuming Linux DOES support this functionality. Using the supplied pam_ingroup and samba package, Linux can support it. Do not forget to install those. 44.. AAbboouutt AACCLLss Access Control List are simply exported in a script. You have to run that script to populate your file system. You need to install a patched kernel and the acl utilities, available from the nt2linux site to support ACLs. By default, Linux does not support ACLs. The kit is still useful without ACL support.
